Since I work as a computer technician at an electronics recycling and refurbishing company I often come across HP machines which are equipped with custom firmware boot logos or texts above the stock HP boot logo put in place by various companies. In order to prepare these machines fully to be sold besides equipment testing and preparing the specifications I also must remove such oddities to return the machine to its most stock state.

Other tutorials found online do not provide a newer, up-to-date way to carry out this procedure instead referring to older HP firmware in their examples. This tutorial is geared towards the users of newer HP firmware. To remove a custom boot logo, I had to come up with a simple procedure to remove such a logo from the firmware with simple tools being used. This tutorial can be carried out by anyone who has even just a little knowledge of using a computer. The procedure requires practically no special equipment, and even then all you need is a USB stick.

This procedure can be done whether or not you are refurbishing your own or someone else's machine - it could be simply because you were handed out a laptop indefinitely for your own personal use from a company you work at; perhaps you bought yourself such a laptop with this minor issue.

Pre-requisites

First and foremost, install PS (preferably, the latest version) in your operating system of choice. After that, go ahead to the link above and download the latest version of HP CMSL available. Install the scripts into the PS directory which shoud be chosen automatically by the installer.

After these preparations, you should go ahead and run PS with elevated permissions. The simplest way to do that is to open the Start Menu, start typing "powershell", left-clicking the result showing PS and then clicking "Run as Administrator". This should launch a PowerShell terminal dialogue window, where you can start the procedure of removing the custom boot logo.

Before continuing on, make sure that for this session the restrictions to execute the commands are lifted. This can be done using this command:

Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned

After that, we're ready to go ahead. We will run these commands:

Import HP.Firmware

Clear-HPFirmwareBootLogo

The first command will import the script library into PS so the next (and other commands) could be used later on as needed. Personally, I don't need any other commands as of this moment, so I will leave it be.

The second command executes a script which takes a moment to do its job and it does exactly what it says - it removes the custom firmware boot logo which is what we want to get rid of. After this command, you may close the PS window and just to make sure you may also reboot your machine to see whether the logo has disappeared or not. After that, the system is now ridden of the custom boot logo or text.
