Tallinn is a beautiful city. One of the three Baltic capital cities, it is situated in the north both of this whole region and the Estonian country itself. It is the smallest of the three Baltic capitals both population- and area-wise. It is a beautiful city with the Old Town which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and which is also (ironically) a touristic attraction for people visiting Helsinki, Finland. Getting around the city is surprisingly easy and no trip has been longer than half an hour, even when touring around some Soviet neighbourhoods far into the Eastern parts of the city. You might want to invest in an e-ticket and buy yourself a day ticket though because single-use 60 min. ticket will set you back by 2 Eur, while an e-ticket card + 24 hr. ticket will cost you 8,50 Eur.
Having visited Vilnius (having lived there, too) and Riga already - both of them more than a few times - I decided to finally visit Tallinn as well. For me the biggest hurdle to overcome was the distance. Both times travelling by bus took away almost an entire day or night of sitting around in the coach. First trip was at the end of the 2024 summer, second one was at the end 2025 spring. Both times I put in a lot of steps walking around and using public transportation mostly closer to the end of the day. I highly recommend visiting this city at least once and I wish you were to see it with me, too. I hope this little gallery will server as a nice and refreshing detour from my usual technical posting. Enjoy.

Here you can see some pictures of downtown Tallinn, Vanalinn (the Old Town), Balti jaam (Baltic (central) train station), Linnahall (the now-abandoned soviet-built City event hall) and Lasnamäe neighbourhood.

While trying to disconnect myself a bit more from the digital world, I deliberately chose to take fewer pictures during this trip.
These photos I took, however, were of less seen views of Tallinn, places less frequented even by the locals.
